Dr. Tanenbaum's expertise is in conducting psychoanalytic psychotherapy with or without medication. He specializes in treating anxiety and depression and the difficulties that arise from problems in self-perception, developing and sustaining relationships, school and work stresses and physical health.
Dr. Tanenbaum has opted out of the ZocDoc review process. He believes asking a patient for a review to aid his own advertisement interferes with and burdens a psychoanalytically informed treatment that depends upon the exploration of feelings and thoughts about the therapist as a vehicle of treatment and change.
Dr. Tanenbaum is a retired Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center where he worked and taught psychiatry to medical students and psychiatric residents. His positions included the Director of In-Patient Services at the University Hospital and later the director of medical student and psychiatric resident out-patient supervision at the municipal hospital. Dr. Tanenbaum has also maintained a private practice of psychiatry for over 35 years which included voluntary staff appointments at St. Luke's Roosevelt and Lenox Hill Hospitals.
Dr. Tanenbaum graduated from SUNY-Downstate Medical School, interned at the University of Maryland Hospital, returned to SUNY-Downstate for his psychiatric residency and did his undergraduate work at Tufts University.
Dr. Tanenbaum is not an in-network provider for any insurance company or Medicare but he will try to work out an acceptable fee.
