Dr. Ellant is chief of the Division of Ophthalmology at Terrence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor of Ophthalmology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, he is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and is an attending on the trauma service at The New York Eye & Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Ellant has been voted "One of America's Top Eye Surgeons" by the Research Council of America every year since 2002.
He is a member of the board of directors and medical advisory committee of the National Association for Visually Handicapped.
After graduating college at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Dr. Ellant earned his medical degree in 1990 from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, where he also completed his internship. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Lenox Hill Hospital - New York University School of Medicine and went on to complete a fellowship in cataract and refractive surgery with the world renown eye surgeon, Dr. Howard Gimbel at the Gimbel Eye Centre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Dr. Ellant speaks English and Spanish. A former intercollegiate tennis and squash player, his interests include painting, drawing, travel, skiing and physical fitness. He is married and has two young children with whom he now spends most of his free time.
