About Dr. Edward Haas

In my pre-physician past I worked in the securities industry as a broker, and then an analyst, and had a small computer consulting and programming business. I have also worked in social services as a street outreach worker doing HIV prevention, and as a service coordinator in a birth-to-three early intervention program. In my late 30's, I decided to start over again and become a doctor, fulfilling a childhood dream. I went to pre-med night school at the University of Pennsylvania for a few years, before going to medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. I completed my psychiatric residency at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Along the way I took some interesting detours into medical Pathology and Family Practice medicine. I believe that having a wide range of life experiences helps me in my empathic work with my patients. Perhaps giving me a better feel for where they’ve been, and an optimistic sense of their future potential. I seem to specialize in dealing with crisis, and getting people well quickly. I also like getting people off medications when possible. On the other hand, I enjoy doing therapy very much. Because I dislike creating dependencies in patients, I avoid newly prescribing stimulants such as adderal or ritalin. Finally, my initial evaluation takes about two hours, and costs $450. I find the extra time is very helpful for both of us. Many times people feel better after after the first visit, and only have to see me a few times afterwards. I look forward to working with you. I'll do my best to help. Best wishes, Dr. Haas
