About Melanie S. Francis

[Please visit www.youngadultpsychotherapy.com for more information about Ms. Francis' background and services] A good therapist must be able to establish safety and trust, start where the client is, be a good listener, be empathic and non-judgmental, and have expertise in a certain area. Teens and young adults (ages 13-40) have special needs, including: stress and anxiety; adjusting to new life events; trauma-related issues (e.g., as a result of previous abuse or neglect); grief and loss issues; depression; relationship issues (e.g., family conflict, bullying, and domestic violence); and difficulty managing anger. Because of the limited services in New York that address the specific needs of this population, Ms. Francis' private practice focuses on them. Ms. Francis holds undergraduate/graduate degrees from the Ivy League's University of Pennsylvania, has a Cognitive-Behavioral orientation (a framework that helps individuals understand how their thoughts/feelings influence their behaviors), has extensive training in CBT, and uses short-term, evidence-based, treatment models to inform her practice and help her clients experience relief. Whatever issues you (or your child) are experiencing, Ms. Francis can help guide you through the process of attaining your goals so you can live your life to its fullest potential. Next steps: 1) Click on an appointment day/time (or call for a specific request). 2) Ms. Francis will call you to ensure she is the best fit for your needs. 3) If so, you'll receive an email confirmation of your appointment. 4) Therapy begins!
