PsychologistAbout Dr. Koby (Yaakov) Frances
My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative and respectful of each person's individual choices and values. I am a specialist in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which allows me to help my clients resolve current issues quickly and effectively while inviting them to safely explore the deeper questions that hold them back from achieving a deeper level of self-awareness. By forging trusting and meaningful therapeutic alliances, I am able to help my clients live a more balanced, meaningful and connected life. My specialty is Anxiety, in both its normative, everyday forms and in its more extreme manifestations. Regardless of its source or how it expresses itself, when our anxiety is out of control or not well understood, it can feel extremely uncomfortable, alienating and painful. It can compel us to say or do things that we know are not a reflection of our true selves or intentions. In that case, psychotherapy is usually the treatment of choice. My other interests include: depression, bipolar disorder, somatic concerns, relationship distress, life-adjustments, social anxiety, panic disorders, family conflict, early childhood trauma and issues around sexuality. I am also interested in religious and spiritual struggle and can work with people from a variety of different faiths. In addition to my years of clinical practice, I have extensive experience lecturing in both graduate and undergraduate university settings. I acted as the previous Chair of Psychology at a distinguished university and was the Director of Clinical Training at a mental health treatment center, where I taught and supervised advanced doctoral students
