About Dr. Jacob Walfish

Dr. Walfish is a graduate of Harvard Medical School, a board-certified internist and gastroenterologist, and Assistant Clinical Professor at the NYU School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in gastroenterology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center of New York. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians and member of the American Gastroenterological Association, he authored chapters on inflammatory bowel disease and antibiotic colitis in the Merck Manual. Dr. Walfish opened his private practice for internal medicine and gastroenterology in upper Manhattan thirty years ago and for the past twenty years has also maintained an office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He speaks fluent Yiddish and Hebrew. In order to best serve his growing Williamsburg practice, Dr. Walfish has accepted the position of full time Medical Director of the new NYU Medical - Williamsburg location. He believes that his intimate relationship with this vibrant community and his appreciation of its medical and social needs will allow him to successfully upgrade the general medical, preventive, and specialty care of its rapidly expanding population. By maintaining open lines of communication and dialogue between the center and its patients, Dr. Walfish envisions a model community-based academic medical center with the highest professional and ethical standards of medical care.
